3600/400 Calender Machine
A calender is a series of hard pressure rollers used to finish or smoothen a sheet of paper and they are heated or cooled as required. The last step in the paper manufacturing process that effects paper and board properties in calendering the paper web is run in between in order to further smooth it out and ensure uniform thickness. There are two main finishes of paper sheet using calendaring namely machine finish or MF paper which range from a rough matte look to a smooth high quality finish and the other being a supercalendered finish or MG paper which has a glossy or glazed paper finish.

Benefits Of Calender Machine
Improved surface finish
The calendering process is renowned for its ability to impart a smooth, glossy, and uniform surface finish to materials. This characteristic is particularly desirable in industries where aesthetic appeal and visual appeal are paramount, such as packaging, decorative laminates, and textiles.
Controlled thickness
By precisely regulating the pressure and roller configurations, the calendering process enables manufacturers to achieve consistent and uniform material thicknesses. This level of control is essential in applications where dimensional accuracy is critical, such as in the production of gaskets, seals, and precision components.
Enhanced physical properties
The intense compression and shear forces experienced during the calendering process can significantly improve the physical properties of materials. This includes increased density, improved mechanical strength, and enhanced dimensional stability, all of which contribute to the overall performance and durability of the final product.
Increased productivity
Calendering machines are designed for continuous operation, allowing for high-volume production and improved efficiency. This streamlined process reduces downtime and maximizes output, making it an attractive choice for manufacturers seeking to optimize their operations.
Versatility
The calendering process can accommodate a wide range of materials, from plastics and rubbers to paper and textiles. This versatility enables manufacturers to leverage a single technique for diverse applications, reducing the need for specialized equipment and streamlining production processes.
Customization potential
By adjusting various parameters, such as roller configurations, temperatures, and pressures, the calendering process offers manufacturers the ability to tailor the final product’s characteristics to meet specific application requirements. This level of customization ensures that the end product meets the desired specifications and performance criteria.
Structural Features
Three-roll structure
Usually consists of three rolls, which are the core of the machine.
Roll surface texture
The roll surface has a specific texture to change the surface characteristics of the material, which can be designed according to specific requirements.
Roller Diameter and Length
The diameter and length of each roller can be customized for specific applications. Usually the infeed rollers are smaller and the calendering and discharge rollers are larger. The diameter of the rollers determines the thickness of the rubber compound.
Roller material
The rollers are made of high quality alloy steel, cast iron and other materials. It can resist abrasion and corrosion.
Roller gap adjustment device
This device can be realized by hydraulic system or manual adjustment, which enables the operator to precisely adjust the distance between the rollers to control the thickness of the processed material.
Feeding System
This system allows the introduction of raw material into the machine either automatically or manually.
Drive system
The electric motor provides sufficient torque and speed to ensure the smooth running of the rollers.
Control system
This system can monitor and adjust the position and pressure of the rollers in real time to ensure the precision of processing.
Safety devices
The machine is equipped with emergency stop button, safety fence and other protective devices to ensure the safety of operators.
Types Of Calender Machine
Two roll calender
A two-roll rubber calender has two parallel rollers. They can be heated or cooled as needed for processing. Each roller has its drive system and adjusting mechanism. They control the spacing and the speed of the rollers. The frame, drive mechanism, heating/cooling system, and control panel are its main components.
Three roll calender
The three-roll calender provides higher calendering pressures and finer thickness control than the two-roll calender. The multiple calendering process reduces material springback and improves product uniformity and quality. Three roll calenders are common for making medium-thickness rubber sheets and compounds. They are widely used to make medium to high-end rubber products, such as tire cord fabrics and high-performance adhesive tapes.
Four roll calender
The four-roll rubber calender consists of four rollers arranged in parallel, usually in a Z-shape or inverted L-shape. This design allows the material to be calendered many times. It goes between three pairs of rollers, which provide very high pressure and precision. This is for making ultra-thin, high-quality rubber sheets.

Working Principle
Paper calendering is a mechanical process that compresses the paper web and improves surface properties. Therefore, calendering reflects the quality standards of the papermaking and coating process.
Calendering includes three elements: Pressure, relative deformation and temperature of paper and pulp rolls.
The efficiency of calendering is the approximate balance between the responsiveness of the coated paper and the total amount of calendering provided. The responsiveness of coated paper is determined in advance by the characteristics of the paper and its coating.
There is a limit to the total amount of paper and/or coating performance that can withstand calendering. Beyond the limit, the calendering effect usually degrades the quality of the paper and correspondingly loses printability.
